When it comes to buying a used car, it can save you a lot of money; however, there are some things you need to be aware of before making that decision.

You don’t want to buy a car that you later regret, so make sure you read through this blog post first to gain a basic understanding of what you should check when buying a used car. This informative post will discuss what features you need to check when viewing a used car.

Inspecting a Used Car

Never view a car without prior knowledge about what you should be looking out for. If you need to, you can bring someone who has more car experience and knows what to look out for when viewing a used car.

Our employees are more than happy to help you at our showroom, but it is always good to know what you are looking for to find the right car for you and your needs.

Tyre Tread

First on the inspection list is the tread on the tyre. Next, check the condition of the tyres, and ensure they have the legal tread depth by doing the 20p test.

Bodywork

After getting up close and personal with the tyres, check for any signs of damage on the bodywork. Are there any dents, marks or scratches? Ensure you have sufficient light available to make sure you are viewing the vehicle clearly. At this stage, make sure there are no gaps between the panels or that there isn’t a disparity between panel colours.

Check for any breaks in the glass, and ensure there are no chips in the windscreen. Check the windscreen and the front and rear lights.

Interior

Don’t forget about the interior of the used car when inspecting. Check for any stains, marks, tears or other damages to the seats, floor or dashboard. Even take note of the smell or any scratches.

Do They Match?

Used cars are a great way to save money, but they will have a certain level of natural wear and tear. Make sure the natural wear and tear are consistent with the mileage and age of the vehicle. A red flag is if the car has low miles but very noticeable and heavy wear and tear, for example.
